He was one of the quiet heroes behind a promotion campaign that defied expectations.

Week after week, he stood firm at the heart of Burnley’s defence, helping them shut out opponents and climb their way back to the Premier League.

Now, just as the club prepares for life back in the top flight, one of Europe’s biggest teams is ready to come calling.

This player has become a household name at Turf Moor in less than two seasons.

After initially arriving on loan, he made such a strong impression that Burnley acted quickly to make the move permanent.

That decision turned out to be crucial, as he went on to start every single match in the Championship last season, anchoring a backline that conceded just 16 goals across 46 games, a truly remarkable record.

His calm presence, leadership, and ability to read the game made him an easy pick for the Championship Team of the Year.

But now, that success has put him in the spotlight. As reported by Football Insider, Bayern Munich are pushing to sign the defender this summer.

The German champions, now managed by Vincent Kompany, know the player well. He featured 16 times under Kompany during the 2023–24 campaign at Burnley.

The Belgian boss clearly rates him highly and believes he could be a valuable addition to his plans at the Allianz Arena.

Burnley, however, are not making it easy. The club has placed a £50 million price tag on the 23-year-old to ward off interest.

With his contract running until June 2029, the Clarets believe they hold all the cards.

The player in question is Maxime Esteve, and whether he stays or goes could define Burnley’s return to the Premier League.

The next few weeks promise to be crucial as Burnley will be looking to keep Maxime Esteve at the club.
