It’s been another chaotic season for AC Milan.

A poor showing domestically tainted what turned out to be a forgettable year for the club.

Despite some memorable results in Europe, including a 3-1 win away at Real Madrid, the season has been a summary of their decline in recent years.

An 8th place finish in Serie A is their lowest league finish in 10 years, and cost Paulo Fonseca his job last season, with Sérgio Conceição drafted in in late December.

The season was rounded off with a final defeat to Bologna in the Coppa Italian.

It’s a far cry from where the seven time Champions of Europe want to be.

However, recent news coming out of Italy is giving fans a real sense of optimism.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Massimiliano Allegri has signed his contracts to become the new AC Milan manager.

The 57 year old returns to Milan for the first time since 2014, following two stints at Juventus.

Allegri was responsible for bringing the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva and Kevin Prince-Boateng to the San Siro in his first spell at the club.

The Italian is a 6-time Serie A champion, and Milan fans will be hoping is the man to return the Rossoneri to their former glories.

Back at the helm, Allegri is the only manager in Europe’s top five leagues to have won a domestic double for four consecutive season.

With no European football next season, AC Milan will have full focus domestically on returning to Europe’s top table.

The Rossoneri’s Ultras will be desperate for the club to return to their former glories, with the Italian giants only winning one league title since 2011.

Will Massimiliano Allegri be the man for Milan? Only time will tell.
