Some managerial departures leave a void that feels impossible to fill.
Andoni Iraola turned Bournemouth from a club scrapping for survival into one of the most exciting sides in the Premier League.
It’s a legacy that would intimidate any incoming manager.
But Bournemouth haven’t wasted a moment in finding someone capable of carrying it forward.
Bournemouth confirm Marco Rose as new head coach on three-year deal following Andoni Iraola departure
According to AFC Bournemouth’s official website, the club has officially confirmed the appointment of Marco Rose as head coach, signing the 49-year-old German on a three-year contract that will begin following the conclusion of the current season.
“AFC Bournemouth is delighted to confirm the appointment of Marco Rose as the club’s new head coach on a three-year contract,” the club statement read.
“Everyone at AFC Bournemouth looks forward to welcoming Marco to Vitality Stadium as he begins his role as head coach in the summer.”
Rose arrives with a CV that speaks entirely for itself.
He began his management career at Lokomotiv Leipzig in 2012 before making a name for himself at Red Bull Salzburg.
Where he won back-to-back Austrian Bundesliga titles in 2017-18 and 2018-19, as well as domestic cup honours.
He then moved to Borussia Dortmund, before his most recent spell at RB Leipzig, where he won the DFB-Pokal and the German Super Cup.
His philosophy aligns closely with what Bournemouth have built under Iraola.
The transition, in terms of style and identity, should be far smoother than anyone might have feared when Iraola’s departure was first confirmed.
He has a 16-year playing career in Germany behind him and brings extensive experience of managing clubs at the very top of European domestic competition.
For Bournemouth, a club that has risen through the divisions and is now preparing for potential European football, the appointment of a manager with Salzburg, Dortmund and Leipzig on his record sends a message about where the club’s ambitions lie.
The next chapter is underway.
