Some pre-seasons arrive with the promise of everything about to begin.
New manager. New season. A squad ready to show the world what they’re capable of.
For Bournemouth, this one has taken a devastating early turn.
Eli Junior Kroupi, the teenage winger who broke Premier League records last season and attracted interest from both Arsenal, and Manchester United, has undergone surgery.
Eli Junior Kroupi faces three to four months out after suffering foot injury in Bournemouth’s pre-season tour
According to The Athletic, the 20-year-old suffered a foot injury during Bournemouth’s pre-season tour in Austria, flying back early and undergoing successful surgery on Tuesday, with the club now managing an absence expected to last between three and four months.
That timeline rules him out of the entire opening phase of the new season.
He won’t be available until November at the earliest.
The club’s position on his future was also clarified within the same report, a departure this summer was never something Bournemouth countenanced.
They were always keeping him.
The injury simply confirms it in a way nobody wanted.
Kroupi’s 2025-26 campaign had been one of the most exciting individual stories in English football.
He broke the record for the most goals by a teenager in Premier League history.
At 19 years old, he was doing things in top-flight football that players twice his age struggle to replicate.
The interest from across Europe was immediate and intense.
Yet, Bournemouth held firm throughout.
Their minimum asking price of €100 million was a statement of intent.
A club that knows what they have and has no interest in letting it go cheap or early.
That stance hasn’t changed.
Surgery was successful.
Recovery has begun.
And when Kroupi returns, whether in November or December, he will do so as a Bournemouth player, with the clubs who wanted him this summer having to wait, and a record-breaking teenager with unfinished business on the south coast.
