Cristiano Ronaldo enjoyed another prolific campaign with Al-Nassr during the 2025-26 season, scoring 28 league goals and 30 across all competitions.
The Portuguese forward also helped Al-Nassr win the Saudi Pro League title before representing his country at the 2026 World Cup.
Ronaldo scored three goals during the tournament and became the first male player to score in six different World Cups.
However, Portugal suffered a 1-0 defeat against Spain in the round of 16, ending Ronaldo’s final World Cup campaign in disappointment.
The 41-year-old has now turned his attention towards the new club season, but speculation surrounding his future has intensified considerably.
Speaking to Vogue, Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that the 2026-27 campaign will probably be the final season of his professional football career. He said:
“This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy.”
The Al-Nassr star has also indicated that he already has plans in place for life after football. Ronaldo said:
“I have my future all mapped out. I have so many things to keep me busy that to tell you just one thing is hard.
“Because football could leave a big hole, you have to fill your time in various ways, not just one.
“And also have more fun, travel more, watch and play padel, which I really like, and continue to enjoy what I’ve earned—what we’ve earned.
“Because after all it’s been 25 years with a lot of sacrifice.”
Ronaldo currently sits on 976 career goals, meaning he needs another 24 to reach the remarkable milestone of 1,000 goals.
He has scored 830 goals for his various club sides and another 146 for Portugal during his extraordinary career.
Ronaldo began his senior career at Sporting CP before joining Manchester United in 2003 for £12 million.
He later moved to Real Madrid for a then-world record £80m and scored 450 goals in 438 appearances during nine years in Spain.
After leaving Madrid, Ronaldo spent three seasons with Juventus before returning to Manchester United in 2021.
He eventually moved to Al-Nassr, where he has made 142 appearances and scored 123 goals.
Ronaldo has also earned 233 international caps for Portugal and captained his country to victory at Euro 2016.
Therefore, the 2026-27 season could bring the curtain down on a remarkable 25-year career. Meanwhile, Lionel Messi has also indicated when he plans to retire from professional football.
