Without any doubt, Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the biggest names in football history. The Portuguese legend is aiming to reach 1000 goals in professional football.
So far, he has reached 965 professional goals in his career. However, his biggest goal will be to win the FIFA World Cup with Portugal.
And, the Portuguese will get one more chance to accomplish his goal this summer when the 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
It is expected to be the last World Cup for the Portuguese. After this World Cup, he might retire from professional football. But that is also a speculation.
But something has happened which has raised a question about Ronaldo’s participation in the quadrennial tournament. The Portuguese was playing for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League against Al-Feyha.
Around the 80-minute mark, the 41-year-old signalled to the bench and went off the field. Cristiano Ronaldo was in visible discomfort before he left the pitch.
Later, he was seen rubbing an ice pack on the back of his knee. This was the second time within a week that Ronaldo left the field early. He did the same around the hour mark against Al-Najma.
The Al-Nassr manager, Jorge Jesus, has confirmed Ronaldo’s injury during his post-match interview. The Portuguese manager said (quotes via The Sun):
“Ronaldo suffered muscle fatigue, and the medical staff will urgently perform the necessary tests to determine his condition.”
As the World Cup will start in three months, a serious injury will mean the Portuguese could miss the showpiece event.
Portugal will face Colombia, Uzbekistan, and either DR Congo, Jamaica or New Caledonia in Group K.
