Everton could face another ownership change less than two years after The Friedkin Group completed its takeover.
TFG purchased Farhad Moshiri’s majority stake in December 2024. The American group subsequently worked to stabilise Everton following years of financial uncertainty.
Its measures included refinancing expensive debt and securing lower-interest loans against the new Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Everton have since completed their move into the stadium and attracted minority investment. However, the ownership’s position has now changed significantly.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, The Friedkin Group is open to selling its majority stake in Everton.
TFG had initially been searching for strategic investors willing to acquire minority positions. A complete sale is now also under consideration.
However, the group will only relinquish control if it identifies a suitable buyer. TFG believes any new owner must have the resources and ambition required to take Everton forward.
It is also prepared to continue supporting the club until that person or group emerges. The development follows a difficult summer transfer window.
Everton sold £100 million worth of players and recorded approximately £25 million in profit. However, their deadline-day business produced only one arrival.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles joined from Lyon for €5 million after a proposed £45 million deal for Folarin Balogun collapsed.
The restricted business created frustration among supporters over the club’s sporting ambition and squad depth.
Despite that uncertainty, David Moyes’ team have started the season positively. Everton entered the October international break following a 1-0 victory over Ipswich Town.
They are also unbeaten across their last eight matches in all competitions. TFG therefore believes Everton are now considerably more stable and attractive than when it assumed control.
The group is under no immediate pressure to sell and remains willing to provide financial backing.
However, the door is now open for a new majority owner if an appropriate offer and suitable successor emerge.
