FC Porto have officially confirmed that a former Chelsea and AC Milan star will leave the club at the end of the season.
The veteran defender only returned to Portugal in January, but he still managed to play an important role during Porto’s title-winning campaign.
Porto finally reclaimed the Primeira Liga trophy for the first time since the 2021-22 season after a strong finish to the campaign.
The experienced centre-back also featured during the club’s Europa League run before Porto eventually suffered a quarter-final defeat against Nottingham Forest.
Despite arriving midway through the season, the defender quickly became an important figure inside the dressing room because of his leadership and experience.
Now, Porto have officially confirmed that Thiago Silva will leave the club after the end of the campaign.
The 41-year-old returned to Porto earlier this year as a free agent following his departure from Fluminense.
Interestingly, Silva previously joined Porto back in 2004. But he never managed to break into the senior team during his first spell.
So his return more than two decades later completed a full-circle moment in his career.
This time, however, he leaves Portugal with a league winners’ medal after helping Porto reclaim the domestic title. Silva made 14 appearances across all competitions during the second half of the season.
He added another major honour to an incredible career filled with trophies. The Primeira Liga triumph also became the 33rd trophy of his professional career.
Porto marked the announcement with a tribute across social media. And supporters thanked the veteran defender for his contribution during the club’s successful run-in.
Now, after a brief but memorable second spell in Portugal, Thiago Silva leaves Porto once again. But this time as a league champion.
