Real Madrid are once again planning to change their manager. After sacking Xabi Alonso, Madrid believed that they would turn their season around.
They were not too far behind Barcelona when Alonso left. They were just four points behind Barcelona, and they had almost half of the season left.
Still, Alvaro Arbeloa failed to deliver. After replacing Alonso, his Real Madrid side were alive in the Copa Del Rey and Champions League, along with the La Liga title race.
However, second division side Albacete Balompie knocked Madrid out of the Copa Del Rey. Also, his team lost to Bayern Munich in the quarter-final of the Champions League.
Also, they are trailing Barcelona in La Liga by 11 points. Their next game will be against Barcelona, and if the Catalan giants win El Clasico, they will retain the La Liga title.
Even a draw would be enough for Barcelona to secure the title. That is why it is unlikely that Real Madrid will continue with Arbeloa next season.
Now, Madrid are looking for a manager with strong character as their next manager. The recent dressing room rift has posed strong questions about harmony inside the team.
Recently, Kylian Mbappe’s camp had to issue a statement to clarify the criticisms he was facing because of favouritism.
So, Florentino Perez is looking for someone who can control large egos inside the dressing room of Real Madrid.
That is why, according to Esdiario (via Mundo Deportivo), Florentino Perez has held a video conference with Jose Mourinho to become the next manager of Real Madrid.
Also, there are reports that the current Benfica boss has laid demand to Perez before taking up the role, including his support staff.
Transfer News Live has already revealed the surprising release clause Mourinho has in his Benfica contract, as the Los Blancos could sign him for free.
Jose Mourinho’s first stint as Real Madrid manager lasted from 2010 to 2013.
