Some stories stop you in your tracks.
Not because of a transfer.
Not because of a result.
But because a young footballer, nineteen years old, at the very start of what should be a long career, is fighting to recover from something that has nothing to do with the game at all.
Midtjylland release update on teenager’s condition after life-threatening attack
According to the Mirror, FC Midtjylland midfielder Alamara Djabi was stabbed in the early hours of Sunday morning in Herning, the central Danish town where the club is based.
The 19-year-old was left in a critical condition.
He underwent emergency surgery immediately after the incident, before requiring a second operation in the days that followed.
The club have since confirmed that Djabi has been brought out of an induced coma and that his condition is now stable.
Their statement read: “Since then, he has undergone another operation, and thanks to the professional efforts of the emergency responders and later the hospital staff, his condition is now stable. He has awakened from an induced coma and is doing well under the circumstances.”
FC Midtjylland added that they are in close dialogue with the authorities and are providing full support to Djabi and his family during what is an extraordinarily difficult time.
However, the circumstances surrounding the attack are still being investigated.
Local police have confirmed the incident took place and an investigation is underway.
For now, Midtjylland are asking that Djabi’s privacy be respected as he continues to recover.
Yet, his story is one that deserves to be told with care.
Djabi arrived at Midtjylland from Benfica’s academy in 2023.
A move that spoke to the belief those around him had in his ability.
A career still very much in its infancy.
One that was almost taken from him entirely on Sunday morning.
