Former Liverpool star due in court following arrest

Former England and Liverpool striker has been charged following an arrest earlier this year. The charge relates to an alleged breach of a UK non-molestation order.

The former player, who used to play for Newcastle United as well, was arrested in April. The alleged offence is said to relate to an incident that took place in March.

The footballer was reportedly detained by police shortly after landing in the UK from France. The arrest took place at Stansted Airport. He was questioned by officers and held for a short period.

A source told at the time that an issue was flagged at passport control. Border Force officers then contacted police.

The source said he was questioned and taken away in front of other passengers. The arrest caused disruption in the terminal. There were several people nearby when police intervened.

Essex Police later confirmed the charge. In a statement (via the BBC), they said that a man had been charged with breaching a non-molestation order.

They confirmed Andrew Carroll of Epping was arrested on April 27. Police also confirmed that the alleged offences relate to an incident in March.

The former Premier League striker is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on December 30.

During his career, Carroll earned nine caps for England. He currently plays non-league football for Dagenham & Redbridge.

The striker joined the National League South side in the summer. That move came after he returned to England following spells in France with Amiens and Bordeaux.
