Harry Maguire enjoyed one of his strongest seasons in recent years after reviving his Manchester United career under Michael Carrick.
The defender became an important figure again at Old Trafford following Carrick’s arrival in January. He helped bring stability to United’s backline during the second half of the campaign.
Maguire made 23 Premier League appearances and played a major role in several important victories throughout the season.
The 33-year-old also earned praise from supporters and pundits after difficult years at the club. So, Manchester United eventually rewarded him with a contract extension running until 2027.
However, the season still ended painfully for the England international. He failed to get a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup.
Tuchel instead selected defenders like Dan Burn and Jarell Quansah ahead of the Manchester United centre-back. Maguire later admitted he felt “shocked and gutted” after the decision.
Despite the disappointment, Maguire has reportedly already found a new role during the World Cup this summer.
According to The Athletic, the Manchester United defender is expected to appear on Netflix’s new “The Rest is Football” programme.
The show will reportedly transform the popular podcast hosted by Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards into a television series during the World Cup.
Reports claim Maguire will feature alongside several presenters and special guests throughout the tournament coverage.
Reporter Alex Aljoe and Rob Jones are also expected to join the production team in the United States.
The opportunity could provide Maguire with a welcome distraction following the heartbreak of missing out on the England squad.
The defender recently travelled on holiday with his wife following the end of the season while preparing for another important campaign at Manchester United.
For now, though, Harry Maguire looks set to experience the World Cup from a completely different role this summer.
