Some defeats do more damage than the scoreline suggests.
That’s exactly what appears to have happened at Wolves, in the aftermath of a damaging result.
Wolves striker fined after dressing room fight
According to Nathan Judah, following Wolves’ 4-0 defeat at West Ham last week, a verbal altercation broke out in the dressing room between Tolu Arokodare and Mateus Mane.
That altercation then became significantly physical.
Arokodare is said to have been the sole aggressor in the incident, which has since been dealt with internally by the club.
And when Wolves travelled to Leeds on Saturday, a game they lost 3-0, Arokodare was an unused substitute.
The timing of that omission now makes a lot more sense.
For a club already in the middle of a difficult season, this is the last thing they needed.
A 4-0 loss away at West Ham was bad enough on its own.
A physical confrontation between two of your own players in the aftermath is something else entirely.
It raises serious questions about the atmosphere inside that dressing room.
Arokodare, the Nigerian international striker, joined Wolves with somewhat of a significant expectation attached to him.
But his future at the club is now described as being in considerable doubt heading into the summer.
Whether Arokodare can recover his standing within the squad and with the club’s hierarchy before the summer window opens remains to be seen.
What’s already clear is that his position has been fundamentally altered by what happened after the final whistle at the London Stadium.
🚨 It is my understanding that following the 4-0 defeat at West Ham last week, there was a verbal altercation between Tolu Arokodare & Mateus Mane in the dressing room.
That altercation became significantly physical with Arokodare being the sole aggressor.
