Some homecomings in football feel genuinely special.
Not a calculated transfer.
But, a player going back to the club where he gave the best years of his career.
And where the supporters never really stopped loving him.
That’s exactly what’s happening with Raul Jimenez and Wolves
And the club aren’t wasting a single day.
Wolves staff fly to Mexico to complete Raul Jimenez reunion during World Cup
According to the Express and Star, Wolves staff have travelled to Mexico, where Jimenez is currently preparing for the World Cup with the host nation, to finalise his medical, complete the agreement and re-sign the 35-year-old striker as a free agent.
The deal is expected to be completed this week.
Fulham confirmed earlier today that Jimenez would leave the club upon the expiry of his contract.
A departure that was already anticipated and one that Wolves had been quietly planning for.
Several clubs in America’s MLS were also interested.
But it’s Molineux where Jimenez is heading.
That interview at the time produced one of the most heartfelt fan reactions of the entire season.
He signed initially on loan from Benfica in 2018 before completing a club record £30 million permanent deal.
And then came the moment nobody will ever forget.
A fractured skull following a sickening clash of heads with Arsenal’s David Luiz in November 2020.
Months of uncertainty.
And a recovery that brought an entire stadium to its feet when he eventually returned, wearing a protective headguard, and scored.
He left for Fulham in 2023 for £5.5 million.
Three years later, he’s coming back.
The emotional pull of the reunion clearly outweighs every other consideration.
For a club beginning a new chapter in England’s second tier, bringing back the player who defined their best years in the top flight sends exactly the kind of message that supporters need to hear.
He’s home.
