Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has delivered his verdict on the underperforming German international Florian Wirtz.
Liverpool made history when they signed Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen by paying a whopping £116 million, including add-ons.
It happens with players coming to the Premier League with an expensive price tag on their shoulders. Wirtz has not started his career at Anfield in a satisfactory way.
Since joining Liverpool, his overall impact in the game, both for club and country, has gone down significantly.
So, this has been concerning for the Reds. They have now lost three back-to-back games. Now, they need their £116 million star to fire.
However, things are not going the way Arne Slot or the Liverpool board imagined with Florian Wirtz. In 7 Premier League games, Wirtz has yet to make a goal contribution.
But the former Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp, seems to back Wirtz and believes that with time, things will improve because of the German’s quality.
While speaking to RTL and n-tv (via talkSPORT), Klopp said:
“I don’t have to worry about Florian Wirtz because his quality is so outstanding.
“Of course, everything’s fine, and everyone knows that. The discussion [around him] is certainly being blown out of proportion.
“Liverpool have just lost three games in a row – it’s unusual for something like that to happen after such a long time. But it’s also normal in life. That’s why these things are being discussed.
“I’ve been in the middle of such discussions long enough now, and I can tell you: Nothing could interest people less than the public discussions that are taking place there. So it doesn’t matter, and everything will be fine.”
Liverpool will take on Manchester United at Anfield this Sunday when the Premier League resumes after the international break.
This will be the game where Wirtz needs to shine. And, if he does, he will become a sensation at Anfield.
