Liverpool’s clash with Tottenham at Anfield produced several talking points. However, one unexpected moment during the broadcast quickly grabbed attention online.
It did not involve a goal or a controversial refereeing decision. Instead, it came from the commentary box.
Sky Sports commentator Jamie Carragher found himself trending on social media after viewers noticed a moment that reminded them of a famous reaction from Mark Goldbridge.
He is the face of Manchester United fan channel The United Stand. The incident occurred during Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario’s attempt to keep the ball in play.
Earlier in the match, Jamie Carragher had already criticised Vicario after the goalkeeper struggled to deal with Dominik Szoboszlai’s long-range free-kick.
Commentating alongside Peter Drury, Carragher did not hide his frustration. He said:
“It’s not far off the middle of the goal, you’ve got to save that. Wow, that’s awful, absolutely shocking from the goalkeeper.”
Later in the second half, another moment involving Vicario created confusion. It was a deflected shot rolled toward the byline in the 68th minute.
And Vicario attempted to keep the ball in play. From the first replay angle, it looked close. Carragher initially believed the goalkeeper had managed to keep the ball inside the field.
Moments later, another angle clearly showed the ball had crossed the line by some distance. Carragher immediately laughed and admitted the mistake. He said, referring to the linesman:
“Maybe he should have seen that one. I was defending him initially.”
The moment quickly spread online. Sky Sports later shared the clip on their official X account with a playful caption suggesting Carragher had just delivered his best Mark Goldbridge impression.
