Leicester City put up for sale

Leicester have suffered severe financial and sporting problems in recent years.

Leicester City are facing another major period of uncertainty after suffering relegation to League One last season.

The Foxes finished 23rd in the Championship after collecting 46 points during a disastrous 2025-26 campaign.

A six-point deduction for previous Premier League PSR breaches made their situation worse. Leicester also won only two of their final 20 league matches.

Their relegation forced the club into a major summer rebuild under new manager Russell Martin.

Leicester sold Abdul Fatawu to Ipswich Town for €23.45 million and Bilal El Khannouss to Stuttgart for €15 million. Jeremy Monga also joined Manchester City for €11.7 million.

Several experienced players left as Leicester attempted to reduce their wage bill and reshape the squad for League One. But the club could now face an even bigger change away from the pitch.

According to BBC Sport, Leicester City have been put up for sale, with Thai owners King Power ready to end their 16-year ownership.

A leading US investment bank has produced an eight-page sales booklet to attract prospective buyers.

Citigroup lists Leicester, the women’s team, King Power Stadium, the Seagrave training facility and Belgian sister club OH Leuven among the assets.

The brochure values Leicester’s physical assets at more than £200 million, although it does not give a specific price for the teams.

King Power bought Leicester for £35 million from Milan Mandaric in 2010. The ownership later oversaw Leicester’s remarkable 2015-16 Premier League title and their first FA Cup triumph in 2021.

However, Leicester have suffered severe financial and sporting problems in recent years.

The club lost more than £180 million while moving between the Premier League and Championship during recent seasons. Their 2025 accounts also showed £103.6 million in bank loans.

Meanwhile, supporters have increasingly called for King Power to sell following Leicester’s dramatic decline.

The sales process now gives prospective investors an opportunity to take control of a club currently preparing for life in League One.
