Sir Alex Ferguson turned Manchester United into the biggest club in England during his legendary spell at Old Trafford.

Now, his son Darren Ferguson could be set for one of the biggest jobs of his managerial career. The 54-year-old has built a strong reputation in the lower divisions over the years.

He has won promotion from League One three times and also guided Peterborough United to EFL Trophy success during the 2024-25 season.

Ferguson has spent most of his managerial career with Peterborough. Across four separate spells, he became one of the most experienced managers outside the Premier League.

However, he has been without a club since leaving Peterborough in October 2025. That could now change very soon for Sir Alex Ferguson’s son.

According to talkSPORT, Darren Ferguson is now open to becoming the new manager of Leicester City ahead of their return to League One football.

Leicester are currently searching for a new manager after suffering a disastrous second successive relegation. The club appointed Gary Rowett in February in an attempt to save the season.

However, he managed just two wins in 14 matches and reports suggest he is now set to leave.

Despite the relegation, the job remains attractive because of the club’s infrastructure, fanbase and ambitions to return quickly.

Leicester’s decline has been dramatic. Just ten years ago, they completed one of the greatest stories in football history by winning the Premier League title.

Now, they are preparing for life in the third division for the first time since 2009. The Foxes ended the season with a 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers.

However, attention has already shifted towards rebuilding the squad and appointing the right manager.

With Ferguson’s experience in League One, he could now emerge as a serious option for Leicester moving forward.
