The future of Nottingham Forest manager Numo Espírito Santos has been a big topic of discussion during the past few days.

Reports came out that Santo was set to lose his job after a reported falling out with Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Tensions between the pair were made public when Marinakis confronted Santo on the pitch after the handling of a late injury to striker Taiwo Awoniyi.

This was in the midst of a drop off in form that saw Forest drop points in 10 of their final 16 games to miss out on UEFA Champions League football by a point.

Forest have European football to look forward to this season, playing in the UEFA Europa League instead of the Conference League as a result of Crystal Palace’s ownership issues.

Prior to today’s game with Palace, Santo made his feelings clear when asked if he was engineering a move away from Forest.

This comes after Santo calling his squad far from being ready, with Marinakis reportedly baffled by his comments.

“That’s nonsense, that doesn’t make any kind of sense”, said Santo earlier today.

“The state is that we are focused on the game, that’s more important.”

Santo was also quick to lay out his intentions to stay at the club.

”Of course! Of course!”

“Yes. That’s what we need to do, and we’re going to do it”, relayed Santo when asked about the possibility of holding face-to-face talks with Marinakis.

“Not today, of course, because it’s the match, but soon, of course.

“There’s no speculation around anything. What we have is to communicate, how we’re going to approach the final days of the market, how we’re going to approach the new season, how we’re going to prepare our boys.”
