It has been quite a seven days or so for Tottenham Hotspur.

Last Wednesday, they suffered agony in the UEFA Super Cup final, as they surrendered their 2-0 lead.

Although, there were still plenty of positives and things to build on.

Then, they comprehensively beat Burnley 3-0 to begin their Premier League season in style.

Now, the good news continues to roll.

Spurs have officially announced that defender Cristian Romero has signed a new contract at the club.

He was into the final two years of his contract, but has now put pen to paper until 2029.

New contracts are like a London Bus for Spurs, having announced a new deal for fellow defender Djed Spence earlier today.

This news comes just days after it was announced that Romero had been appointed new captain of the first team.

Previous captain Heung-Min Son had departed the club, and fellow vice captain James Maddison suffered an ACL injury.

So, the natural thing to do was give the Argentine defender the armband. Particularly with a new contract on the horizon.

The club even released an English speaking interview with Romero last week.

This put doubts over his captaincy due to fears of his English not being at the apt level.

Over the last year, the two time Copa America winner and World Champion had been linked with Atletico Madrid.

But that can now be put to rest, and Spurs fans can be excited for another season with their skipper in defence.

Let’s just hope he can stay injury free.
