Ange Postecoglou was relieved of his duties as Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.
The announcement came on Tottenham’s official website yesterday afternoon.
In a club statement yesterday, the club said: “We are extremely grateful to Ange for his commitment and contribution during his two years at the Club.
“Ange will always be remembered as only the third manager in our history to deliver a European trophy, alongside legendary figures Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkinshaw.
“However, the Board has unanimously concluded that it is in the best interests of the Club for a change to take place.
“Whilst winning the Europa League this season ranks as one of the Club’s greatest moments, we cannot base our decision on emotions aligned to this triumph.
“This has been one of the toughest decisions we have had to make and is not a decision that we have taken lightly, nor one we have rushed to conclude.
“News on the appointment of a new Head Coach will be announced in due course.”
The news of Postecoglou’s dismissal from Tottenham has led to a reaction from several of his former players.
This includes Spurs captain Son Heung-min.
The South Korea international has scored 173 goals for the club
He has also assisted 101 times in 454 total appearances.
However, until last month, he had yet to win silverware during his time in South London.
He finally got to lift a trophy in Bilbao as Tottenham won the Europa League, beating Manchester United 1-0 in the final.
Son took to Instagram to praise the Australian manager. He said: “Gaffer. You’ve changed the trajectory of this club.
“You believed in yourself, and us, since day one and never wavered for a second. Even when others did.
“And your way brought this club the best night it’s had in decades. We will have those memories for life.
“You trusted me with the captaincy. One of the highest honours of my career.
“It’s been an incredible privilege to learn from your leadership up close.
“I am a better player and a better person because of you.
“Ange Postecoglou, you are a Tottenham Hotspur legend forever. Thank you, mate.”
The quest now begins for Tottenham to appoint a new manager.
Brentford’s Thomas Frank is seen as the favourite for the role.
According to the Guardian, the club are “weighing up” a £10 million for Frank.
