This summer brings a new era for AS Roma, who have appointed Gian Piero Gasperini as their new manager.
So far, they have moved to bring in Neil El Aynaoui, Evan Ferguson, Wesley, Devis Vaszquez, and Daniele Ghilardi.
There have been some outgoings too, most notably midfielder Leandro Paredes, who returned to Boca Juniors.
The latest player to arrive in the capital could come from the Premier League.
David Ornstein has this afternoon reported that the Italians are in talk with Aston Villa for winger Leon Bailey.
He states that their pursuit is “firm” and that they are emerging as strongest suitor.
Furthermore, he states that there is interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey, including Besiktas.
Despite a bright start to life in the West Midlands, Bailey has gradually seen his impact shrink.
He featured just 24 times in the English Premier League last season, starting 14 of those.
Injuries have also not helped, but even when fit he is definitely not a first choice player for Unai Emery.
Any forward would fancy their chances at doing well under Gasperini.
At Genoa, Mateo Retegui scored seven league goals in 23/24. The next season under Gasperini, he scored 24 times.
He made Rasmus Hojlund look line of the most promising strikers in Europe for a period too.
You wouldn’t blame Bailey at all for making this move, particularly if he gets more regular minutes.
