Aston Villa are preparing for another season in the Champions League. Unai Emery guided the club back into Europe’s top competition and now wants a stronger squad.
Villa relied heavily on Ollie Watkins last season and need more options in attack. The club wants extra quality in the final third.
Villa also want players who can handle the demands of both domestic and European football. As a result, recruitment remains a major focus this summer.
One Premier League striker has now entered their thinking. According to AS, Aston Villa are interested in Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade.
The report claims Newcastle could demand around €65 million for the Germany international. Several clubs are also monitoring his situation ahead of the new season.
Woltemade has reportedly attracted attention after an impressive campaign. The 24-year-old scored 12 goals and provided five assists last season.
Villa often relied on Watkins to carry the attacking burden. Therefore, adding another forward would give Emery more tactical flexibility and greater depth.
The move could also appeal to the player. Villa will play Champions League football next season. That opportunity could prove attractive if Woltemade decides to leave Newcastle.
However, Villa face competition. The report states that Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund are also tracking the striker.
Both clubs continue to monitor developments while the player focuses on Germany’s World Cup campaign.
Newcastle’s asking price remains the biggest obstacle. Villa would need to spend €65 million to complete a deal. Nevertheless, Woltemade still has room to improve.
For now, Villa’s interest remains at an early stage. But with Emery eager to strengthen his attack, Woltemade has emerged as a serious option ahead of the new campaign.
