Aston Villa are preparing for another demanding season under Unai Emery. The Midlands club secured Champions League football and now face the challenge of competing on multiple fronts.
Villa want to add more quality and depth to the squad as they prepare for a packed fixture schedule next season. As a result, the club have already started exploring new additions.
One position under consideration is midfield. According to TEAMtalk, Aston Villa have opened talks over a move for Lucas Bergvall.
As per the report, Villa are among the clubs interested in signing the Swedish midfielder. Aston Villa have already entered discussions as they look to assess the possibility of bringing him to Villa Park.
Bergvall’s future has become increasingly uncertain in North London. The 20-year-old recently informed Tottenham Hotspur of his desire to leave this summer in search of a fresh opportunity.
The midfielder reportedly wants regular playing time after struggling for minutes at North London. That development has attracted significant interest.
There are seven clubs that are currently monitoring the situation. However, Bergvall is not prioritising a move to another Premier League side at this stage.
Tottenham could reportedly demand around £57 million for the midfielder. Spurs remain active in the transfer market themselves.
The club have already strengthened their squad after another difficult Premier League campaign that ended with a 17th-place finish.
Marcos Senesi, Jan-Paul van Hecke and Andy Robertson have all arrived as Tottenham attempt to avoid another battle near the bottom of the table.
Meanwhile, Bergvall faces growing competition in midfield. Spurs are looking to sign Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes which would reduce Bergvall’s playing time even further.
That situation appears to have influenced his decision to look elsewhere for opportunities. Villa now hope they can take advantage.
