It has been a weird transfer window for Aston Villa so far.

Ironically, it has been interesting just how uninteresting it has been.

Many people expected a turbulent window due to PSR reasons, with big stars sold.

However, that has not been the case so far.

The likes of Marcus Rashford, Marco Asensio and Axel Disasi have not returned after their loans.

Marco Bizot and Zepiqueno Redomnd joined on frees, whilst Yasin Ozcan came in for £6m.

Generally though, not a lot has happened of any significance either way.

That could be about to change.

According to L’Equipe via SportsWitness, Villa are set to sign Evann Guessand of OGC Nice.

They report that a medical is scheduled for Wednesday, the sixth of August.

The agreement is worth 35 million plus unspecified bonuses.

Last season, Guessand scored 12 goals and provided eight assists in Ligue 1, mostly off the right-wing or as the right sided number ten.

At 24-years old, he is a player who has experience but also has his best years yet to come.

One downside for Unai Emery’s side is he will likely be away with the Ivory Coast for AFCON this winter.

In general, though – this seems like a smart signing.

With the aforementioned departures of Rashford and Asensio, Villa clearly need reinforcements in those wide attacking areas.

That too and Guessand could also lead the line if necessary, similarly to Donyell Malen.
