Atletico Madrid are planning a major summer shake-up.
After a season where expectations once again outweighed results, the focus at the club has turned towards reshaping the squad.
Diego Simeone remains at the centre of those plans, but the message is clear; something needs to change if Atletico want to challenge seriously next season.
A key part of that change is expected to happen up front. Antoine Griezmann, despite another committed season, is not getting younger.
The club knows that to stay relevant among Europe’s elite, they need a striker who can deliver 20 goals a season minimum.
They have been scanning the market for weeks. Several names have been considered, but only one has moved to the top of the shortlist.
A name that would not only bring goals but also fight, work rate, and a big-game mentality that fits everything Simeone demands in a player.
According to journalist Juanfe Sanz, Atletico have now zeroed in on a top-tier forward currently playing in Serie A.
The club believes he can be the face of their next project and is prepared to make a serious offer to bring him to the Spanish capital.
There is interest on both sides, but negotiations will not be easy. The striker has a long-term deal with his current club, who are unlikely to sell without a significant fee.
Atletico, however, are reportedly ready to test that stance. The player they are targeting is Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez.
The Argentine has scored 12 goals in the league this season and remains one of Europe’s most complete forwards.
His blend of energy, movement, and sharp finishing has made him a nightmare for defences across Italy.
Atletico believe he could do the same in La Liga. Now, the question is whether they can convince Inter and Lautaro himself that Madrid is where his next chapter should begin.
