Bayern Munich are already planning for next summer. However, their focus is not only on attacking options.
The German champions are looking closely at defensive reinforcements. So, one Premier League defender has now emerged at the top of their list.
Marc Guehi almost left Crystal Palace on deadline day. Liverpool were very close to completing a deal. But manager Oliver Glasner threatened to resign if his club sold the player.
After that, the move collapsed. Guehi remained in London but did not allow the failed transfer to affect him.
This season, he has been excellent. Palace are the only unbeaten side in the Premier League and recently beat Liverpool 2-1 at Selhurst Park.
Nevertheless, the defender’s contract situation is now creating headlines again. Guehi is set to become a free agent next summer.
According to TBR Football, Bayern are very serious about signing him. They are already in talks and have sent scouts to watch him live.
Also, Bayern players have spoken highly of him. Harry Kane and Michael Olise are among those who recommended Guehi to the club.
Officials at the Allianz Arena were impressed after watching him at Selhurst Park. Therefore, Bayern see him as a perfect fit for their defence.
The Bavarians may lose Dayot Upamecano next summer. The French defender is also out of contract and Liverpool are showing interest in him.
So, Guehi is viewed as an ideal replacement. His arrival could solve a major issue for Bayern if Upamecano departs.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have not ended their pursuit. The Reds could try again in January if Palace can secure a replacement.
Therefore, Liverpool want Guehi or even Upamecano. But with Bayern stepping up, the Reds face a real battle to land their target.
