Chelsea started their 2026–27 Premier League campaign positively with a 3–2 victory against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Joao Pedro, Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers scored as Xabi Alonso began his league tenure with three points.
However, Chelsea are now preparing for significant late transfer activity before the summer window reaches its conclusion.
Manchester City remain interested in Enzo Fernandez and could make another attempt to sign the Argentine midfielder.
Chelsea previously set a deadline for Fernandez’s departure, although that deadline passed without an agreement being reached.
However, Nico Gonzalez’s expected move from Manchester City to Newcastle United could help unlock further negotiations involving Fernandez.
Chelsea would still require their valuation to be met before allowing one of their key midfielders to leave.
They would also need another midfield signing, with several names currently under consideration at Stamford Bridge.
According to talkSPORT‘s Ben Jacobs, Chelsea are considering Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga as a possible replacement for Enzo Fernandez.
Camavinga features on a four-man shortlist alongside Manu Kone, Adam Wharton and Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott.
Chelsea have already seen a £64 million offer rejected for Scott, while Bournemouth insist he remains unavailable.
Crystal Palace have taken a similar stance on Wharton and do not want to sell him this summer.
Meanwhile, Roma expect Kone to remain at the club, although Fernandez’s departure could potentially change that situation.
Reports in Spain claim Jose Mourinho has informed Camavinga that he ranks last among Real Madrid’s midfield options.
However, those reports also suggest Camavinga will still receive opportunities, leaving his immediate future uncertain.
Chelsea therefore have several alternatives available, but Fernandez’s possible move to Manchester City remains central to their plans.
