Chelsea make transfer decision on wantaway Tottenham Hotspur star

Chelsea explored a move for the player earlier this year.

Chelsea are preparing for a busy summer under new manager Xabi Alonso. The Blues endured a disappointing 2025-26 campaign and finished 10th in the Premier League.

They also missed out on European qualification after falling short in both domestic and continental competitions. As a result, Chelsea are looking to strengthen several areas of the squad.

The club expects to make multiple first-team signings before the new season begins. However, Chelsea will also remain selective when opportunities emerge in the market.

One opportunity appeared to present itself recently. Lucas Bergvall has informed Roberto De Zerbi that he wants to leave the club this summer amid concerns over his playing time.

The midfielder is currently away with Sweden at the World Cup but uncertainty continues to surround his future. Chelsea explored a move for the player earlier this year.

However, Tottenham blocked any possibility of a deal and refused to entertain discussions. Spurs have now placed a £45 million valuation on the midfielder as they assess his future.

According to Standard Sport, Chelsea have no plans to revive their interest in the Swedish midfielder despite his desire to leave Tottenham.

The Blues have also ruled out moves for Manchester City defender John Stones and Arsenal youngster Ethan Nwaneri. Instead, Chelsea are focusing on other targets.

Atalanta defender Marco Palestra has attracted links, but Chelsea have not held club-to-club talks with the Italian side regarding a transfer.

Meanwhile, changes continue elsewhere in the squad. Marc Cucurella recently completed a move to Real Madrid, while Malo Gusto’s future remains uncertain.

Those developments could shape Chelsea’s recruitment strategy over the coming weeks. For Bergvall, the search for a new club may continue.

The midfielder wants more regular football, but Chelsea have now stepped away from the race and will focus their attention on alternative targets this summer.
