Real Madrid are expected to strengthen their midfield again this summer after Jose Mourinho’s arrival as the club’s new manager.
The Portuguese coach reportedly wants another creative midfielder capable of controlling games and improving the team’s build-up play.
Several names have already been discussed internally at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, one player has emerged as Mourinho’s preferred option.
According to El Nacional, Jose Mourinho reportedly wants Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez at Real Madrid. The Argentine international also wants to join the Spanish giants.
Reports suggest the player wants to experience Spanish football and views Real Madrid as one of the biggest opportunities possible in his career.
Meanwhile, frustration has reportedly grown around his current situation in England after a disappointing campaign with Chelsea
The Blues failed to qualify for European competition next season, and tensions have reportedly increased in recent months because of the uncertainty surrounding the managerial situation.
However, Chelsea will not make negotiations easy despite Fernandez’s desire to leave Stamford Bridge.
Todd Boehly reportedly wants to protect the investment Chelsea made when they signed Fernandez from Benfica for around €120 million more than three years ago.
As a result, Chelsea have reportedly told Real Madrid they must pay at least €100 million to complete the transfer.
However, Chelsea could dramatically lower their demands if Real Madrid include Federico Valverde in the deal.
Chelsea would reportedly accept Valverde plus €20 million in exchange for Enzo Fernandez.
The London club have admired the Uruguay international for a long time and previously attempted to sign him in the past.
Now, Chelsea reportedly want to use Real Madrid’s interest in Enzo Fernandez as an opportunity to finally secure Valverde’s arrival at Stamford Bridge.
