Chelsea star leaves pre-season to seal transfer

Chelsea have also focused on trimming the squad.

Chelsea endured a disappointing 2025/26 campaign after finishing 10th in the Premier League.

The Blues also experienced major managerial instability before appointing Xabi Alonso ahead of the new season.

Since then, Chelsea have moved quickly to reshape the squad during the summer transfer window.  The club completed a record-breaking £117M move for Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa.

They also strengthened the squad by signing Maxence Lacroix, Marco Palestra, Geovany Quenda and Emmanuel Emegha. Meanwhile, Chelsea have also focused on trimming the squad.

Marc Cucurella has joined Real Madrid, Alejandro Garnacho has left on loan for Aston Villa and Trevoh Chalobah is also closing in on a departure.

Now, another member of Alonso’s squad appears set to leave before the Premier League campaign begins.

Chelsea are currently in Australia preparing for the new season with a series of pre-season friendlies.

However, according to The Sun, Filip Jorgensen has left Chelsea’s pre-season tour and returned to the United Kingdom as he closes in on a move to the club’s sister side Strasbourg.

The Danish goalkeeper is actively pursuing a move away from Stamford Bridge after sharing the number one role with Robert Sanchez last season.

He was also handed several opportunities following Liam Rosenior’s arrival in January. However, his season took a difficult turn after a costly mistake during Chelsea’s home defeat against Paris Saint-Germain.

Soon afterwards, the 24-year-old underwent groin surgery after suffering an injury. Reports at the time claimed Jorgensen wanted to leave Chelsea once the summer transfer window opened.

Chelsea could also welcome Danny Welbeck to their pre-season tour if negotiations progress quickly enough.

However, Jorgensen now looks set to complete his Stamford Bridge exit before the new campaign gets underway.
