A familiar story is unfolding at Old Trafford, where another high-profile arrival is heading toward the exit door.
After months of uncertain performances with Manchester United and a successful loan spell at a La Liga club, the time seems to be nearing for one Brazilian winger whose career in England never quite hit the heights many had hoped.
The player in question has struggled to cement his place in Manchester United’s starting eleven, and with the club aiming to trim both their squad and wage bill, it appears that a change is not just likely, it is necessary.
United are reportedly eager to cash in and relieve themselves of the player’s €12 million per year salary.
Since January, he has been out on loan at Real Betis. While the Spanish side appreciated what he brought to the team, they do not have the financial muscle to meet United’s demands.
That door now looks closed. Meanwhile, interest is beginning to build from several corners of Europe, though nothing is advanced yet.
According to ESPN Brazil, Bayer Leverkusen are now seriously considering a move.
The Bundesliga club parted ways with their title-winning manager Xabi Alonso who is taking charge of Real Madrid.
Now, under new management with Erik ten Hag, Bayer Leverkusen are starting a new era.
Ironically, Ten Hag was the same man who brought this Brazilian talent to Old Trafford.
In addition to Leverkusen, Bayern Munich and Atlético Madrid are also being mentioned as potential destinations, though it is still early days in terms of negotiations.
His agents have already started holding conversations across Europe, hoping to find the right landing spot for a much-needed fresh start.
That Brazilian winger is Antony, and his time at Manchester United looks to be running out.
Whether it is in Germany or Spain, one thing is clear, Antony will almost certainly be wearing different colours next season.
