Barcelona continue evaluating their squad after another successful domestic season under Hansi Flick.
The Catalan giants strengthened their attack by signing Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi during the summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, the club remain focused on signing a new striker and completing a permanent deal for Joao Cancelo. However, a recent injury has also created questions in midfield.
Frenkie de Jong suffered a long-term knee injury during the World Cup, leaving Flick without one of his most important midfielders for several months.
That situation has attracted interest from an experienced free agent. According to SPORT, former Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka has offered himself to Barcelona after leaving the German champions.
The midfielder’s representatives have contacted Barcelona’s sporting department and informed the club that Goretzka would welcome the chance to reunite with Flick.
The pair previously worked together at Bayern Munich. Goretzka played 64 matches under Flick between 2019 and 2021.
During that spell, he contributed 15 goals and 18 assists while playing a key role in the manager’s successful team.
However, Barcelona have made their position clear. The club do not plan to strengthen the midfield despite De Jong’s injury.
Sporting director Deco believes the current squad has enough depth to cope with the Dutchman’s absence.
Barcelona have also decided not to change their plans for Marc Casado. The club believe the academy graduate should seek regular first-team football elsewhere.
Although Barcelona will not force him to leave, they are willing to help him find a new club.
Goretzka made 48 appearances for Bayern Munich last season and remained an important squad member despite not being a guaranteed starter.
Even so, Barcelona remain focused on their existing priorities and have no plans to pursue the experienced German international.
