It was not the return to the Premier League that Leicester City fans would have hoped for in 2024/25.

After earning promotion back to the Premier League following a year away, Leicester fans will have been hoping for survival, despite threats of points deductions.

Manager Enzo Maresca, who guided the club to promotion from the EFL Championship in the 2023/24 season, was appointed by Chelsea during the summer.

To replace him, Steve Cooper was hired.

However, his stint as Foxes boss only lasted 15 games, with just three wins in this period.

Former Premier League striker Ruud van Nistelrooy was hired after a brief interim manager spell with Manchester United, beating Leicester in two of his four games in the role.

In the 27 games that followed, van Nistelrooy had an 18.52% winning percentage as the club were relegated back to the Championship.

After winning the Premier League against the odds in the 2015/16 season, Leicester have now had two relegations in three seasons.

They conceded 80 goals in 2024/25, the third highest total from any team that season.

Mads Hermansen was the club’s first choice last season but has been linked with West Ham United in recent days.

The club looks to have found a player that could potentially replace Hermansen between the sticks.

It has been confirmed that Asmir Begović has signed a contract with Leicester.

Signing on a one-year deal, Begović arrives with plenty of experience at the top level, with 368 games in English football across three separate divisions.

Begović played in a World Cup for his native Bosnia and Herzegovina back in 2014.

He has since won a Premier League with Chelsea in the 2016/17 season, making two league appearances in the absence of Thibaut Courtois.

Begović is probably best known for being one of six goalkeepers in Premier League history to score a goal.

In a 1-0 win over Southampton, he scored the only goal of the game just 13 seconds in, his clearance sailing over the head of Saints goalkeeper Artur Boruc.

Most crucially, he was in the 2020/21 Championship team of the season and will hope to have a similar type of impact in Leicester.
