Liverpool make contact to sign Real Madrid star

The Reds also spoke with Real Madrid about a potential transfer during the summer.

Liverpool have enjoyed an encouraging start to their first season under Andoni Iraola following another significant squad overhaul.

The Reds invested heavily during the summer, with Bradley Barcola becoming the headline arrival from Paris Saint-Germain.

Jeremy Jacquet also strengthened the defence, while Ronald Araujo joined on loan from Barcelona as Liverpool reshaped their squad.

Iraola’s side have responded positively on the pitch, collecting nine points from their opening five Premier League matches.

Liverpool nevertheless continue to monitor potential additions despite deciding against signing another midfielder during the summer.

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool have maintained contact with Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni’s representatives.

The Reds also spoke with Real Madrid about a potential transfer during the summer before ultimately deciding against another midfield addition.

Tchouameni subsequently held discussions with Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho and agreed a new long-term contract.

However, that agreement has not ended Liverpool’s interest, with communication between the club and the player’s camp remaining open.

Liverpool are currently satisfied with the development of Trey Nyoni and James McConnell and plan to continue providing first-team opportunities.

However, they remain prepared to enter the midfield market if an opportunity emerges to sign a player of sufficient quality.

Tchouameni remains committed to Real Madrid and intends to compete for a regular starting position under Mourinho.

The 25-year-old would not be ready to accept a long-term role as merely a squad player at the Santiago Bernabeu.

That situation could become important for Liverpool if his playing status changes and he begins reconsidering his future.

Liverpool are not currently pushing to complete a deal, while Tchouameni has committed his future to Real Madrid.

However, the Reds have kept communication open and could reconsider a move if the midfielder’s circumstances change.
