Liverpool plan January move for €70M Chelsea target

Liverpool’s interest remains genuine as Iraola considers whether further midfield reinforcement will be required in January.

Liverpool could return to the transfer market in January after making significant changes to Andoni Iraola’s squad during the summer.

The Reds invested heavily following Mohamed Salah’s departure, with Bradley Barcola arriving from Paris Saint-Germain for £123 million.

Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz also joined permanently, while Liverpool added Ronald Araujo to their defensive options on loan.

Meanwhile, Curtis Jones left for Inter Milan and Andy Robertson completed a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Liverpool have made a mixed start under Iraola, recording draws against Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and Fulham.

However, victories over Ipswich Town and Atletico Madrid have provided encouragement during the early stages of the new campaign.

Attention could now turn towards Liverpool’s midfield when the January transfer window opens.

According to David Lynch (via Anfield Index), Liverpool have genuine interest in signing Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara during the winter window.

The 22-year-old came close to joining Chelsea during the summer after holding extended talks over a potential move.

Chelsea had agreed a package worth around €55 million before Monaco changed their position during the final hours of deadline day.

Liverpool were subsequently linked with Camara, although claims that their interest caused Chelsea’s deal to collapse were questioned.

Monaco could now demand closer to €70 million for the Senegal international if negotiations resume in January.

Liverpool’s interest comes after Jones left Anfield and Iraola began assessing his midfield options during the opening weeks.

Camara has also indicated that he remains interested in playing in the Premier League despite his failed Chelsea transfer.

However, Liverpool have not yet completed an agreement with Monaco over a January move.

The Reds could therefore face a considerably higher asking price than Chelsea negotiated during the summer.
