Liverpool set sights on €40M Barcelona star

The 22-year-old attracted interest from Manchester United during the summer, but the proposed move ultimately failed to materialise.

Liverpool could make further changes to Andoni Iraola’s squad after a mixed start to the new Premier League season.

The Reds have failed to win three of their opening four league matches, drawing against Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and Fulham.

Liverpool made significant changes during the summer after Mohamed Salah left the club on a free transfer.

Bradley Barcola arrived from Paris Saint-Germain for £106 million, becoming the biggest addition to Iraola’s revamped squad.

Victor Munoz joined from Osasuna for £34.5 million, while Jeremy Jacquet completed a £55 million move from Rennes.

Liverpool also strengthened their defence by signing Ronald Araujo on loan from Barcelona.

However, further defensive changes could follow when the January transfer window opens, with Liverpool now considering another Barcelona player.

According to journalist Juan Jesus, Liverpool have identified Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde as a priority target for the winter window.

The 22-year-old attracted interest from Manchester United during the summer, but the proposed move ultimately failed to materialise.

Barcelona wanted a permanent transfer for Balde and are reportedly ready to value the defender at around €40 million.

Liverpool currently have Milos Kerkez and Kostas Tsimikas available at left-back, but the Reds are considering another option for the position.

Iraola reportedly views Balde as a suitable addition as he continues shaping the squad around his plans at Anfield.

The Spain international has spent his career with Barcelona but could now emerge as an option for Liverpool in January.

Barcelona could also receive a substantial fee if they sanction the defender’s departure during the winter transfer window.
