It’s been a season to forget for Man United and Ruben Amorim

Following Europa League disappointment last week, United finished the season trophyless in 15th place, with nothing to show for their efforts.

The club are now firmly looking towards their summer transfer plans.

No doubt, most areas of the pitch will need improving from the current crop of players.

And it looks like the Red Devils may be about to formally submit their first official bid of the summer.

David Ornstein from The Athletic has reported this evening that Man United have made contact with Wolves to submit an opening offer for the Wolves star.

United are asking to pay the £62.5m release clause over 5 years, but Wolves expect it to be paid over 2 years as stated in the Brazilian’s contract.

Personal terms are reported to already be agreed, with the structure of the deal being negotiated between the two clubs.

As per Sami Mokbel from the BBC, Wolves are set to reject Man United’s proposed payment structure, and expect United to honour the clause.

The Brazilian scored 15 goals for Wolves this season, and often proved to be the talisman as they steered clear of relegation.

The former Atletico Madrid man has been touted for a move to one of Europe’s elite clubs, despite signing a new contract with Wolves in February.

Following a generationally poor season for the Red Devils, this summer is pivotal for United to re-establish themselves at the top end of the league.

There will be no Europe to contend with for Ruben Amorim’s side next season, which could play to their advantage.

With the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes and Joshua Zirkzee all linked with moves away from Old Trafford, it’s vital United bolster their forward line with quality additions.

Could Matheus Cunha be the man to fire United back to Europe? Only time will tell.
