Manchester City are preparing for further movement in the January window. Defensive concerns have forced fresh thinking at the Etihad.
Sunday’s 1–1 draw with Chelsea delivered a heavy blow. Both Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias were forced off with injuries. The result also saw City lose ground in the title race.
Gvardiol is now out for several months after suffering a tibial fracture. The Citizens has also scheduled his surgery.
Dias is also facing a spell on the sidelines due to a muscle problem, although the timeline remains unclear.
With John Stones and Nathan Ake continuing to struggle for consistency in fitness, City are now short of reliable options.
There are rumours about a possible move away from the club for Ake in January. That context has pushed the club back into the market.
City have already recalled academy defender Max Alleyne from his loan at Watford. Abdukodir Khusanov is expected to feature more prominently.
Still, the club want proven experience. According to BBC, Manchester City have now opened talks to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. They have already made an initial approach.
Now, multiple clubs are tracking Marc Guehi. Liverpool have been tracking him since last summer.
Bayern Munich are also monitoring the situation, with an eye on a free transfer in the summer.
Last year, a move to Liverpool collapsed late. Guehi was close to completing a medical before Crystal Palace pulled the plug.
Since then, the England star has remained professional and delivered strong performances. With his contract expiring at the end of the season, Palace would prefer a January sale.
Crystal Palace value him at more than £35 million. City, however, are only willing to offer below that figure given the contract situation.
With Manchester City already set to beat Liverpool to Antoine Semenyo, the Reds now face the risk of another hijack as the window heats up.
