Bayern Munich are not expected to completely rebuild their defence this summer after another strong domestic campaign under Vincent Kompany.
The Bavarian giants remain happy with several centre-backs currently inside the squad and defensive reinforcements are not viewed as the club’s biggest priority.
However, potential departures could still force Bayern into the market later in the window.
The club also continues monitoring opportunities involving elite players already proven at the highest level in Europe.
Now, reports from Germany suggest one Manchester City defender is extremely eager to make a move to Munich.
According to SportBild (via @iMiaSanMia on X), Croatian international Josko Gvardiol wants to join Bayern Munich this summer.
The report claims the defender is eager to return to the Bundesliga after previously impressing heavily with RB Leipzig before his move to England.
Representatives close to the player are also reportedly pushing for the transfer behind the scenes. The main issue involves Manchester City’s asking price.
Reports suggest City would demand around €60-70 million for the defender despite him having only two years remaining on his contract.
Manchester City originally paid around €90 million to sign Gvardiol from RB Leipzig back in 2023.
For now though, Bayern appear reluctant to spend such a huge fee unless major changes happen inside their defensive squad later in the summer.
Joško Gvardiol would love to return to the Bundesliga and is very keen to join Bayern. The player’s entourage is also pushing him to make the move. Bayern like Gvardiol, but in the end it’s a question of money. He would cost at least €70m, and Bayern would need sales before.… pic.twitter.com/dzTdf4xSQs
