Newcastle United line up shock move for £75M Liverpool target

No formal approach has been made by Newcastle at this stage.

Newcastle United are monitoring a midfielder who has also attracted serious interest from Liverpool ahead of the 2027 transfer market.

The Magpies rebuilt their midfield during the summer following the departures of Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.

Matthias Jaissle’s side added several players, including Nico Gonzalez from Manchester City and Aladji Bamba from Monaco.

However, Newcastle are continuing to assess potential midfield additions as they consider further changes during the next two transfer windows.

One Premier League player has now emerged on their radar, although Newcastle have not yet made a formal approach.

According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle United are monitoring Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton and could become active if a transfer becomes possible.

The 22-year-old could leave Palace during one of the next two windows, potentially as early as January.

Liverpool remain interested in Wharton after previously identifying him as a midfield target. Chelsea are also continuing to monitor his situation.

Newcastle are currently waiting for greater clarity from Palace before deciding whether to make a formal move.

Wharton stayed at Selhurst Park during the summer despite interest from several clubs.

Palace also retain a strong contractual position because the England international remains tied to the club until 2029.

The midfielder is reportedly valued at a minimum of around £75 million, meaning any potential deal would require another considerable investment from Newcastle.

Liverpool could provide competition if Palace eventually become willing to negotiate over Wharton’s departure.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are assessing whether the midfielder could become part of their rebuilt squad under Jaissle.

No formal approach has been made by Newcastle at this stage, and Palace have not opened the door to a sale.

However, their continued monitoring means Wharton could become a transfer option if his situation changes before either the January window or summer 2027.
