Real Madrid have spent the last few weeks planning their summer carefully.

After a tough season in key defensive matches, they want a new centre-back, someone strong, reliable, and ready to lead from the back.

They already have a solid group, but injuries and inconsistency hurt them last season. Xabi Alonso, the new Madrid boss, wants no repeat of that.

After losing 4-0 to PSG in the Club World Cup semi-final, the need for defensive reinforcement is now much more evident.

Alonso has told the club to act fast and find the right man. And they thought they had found the right man.

For a while, everything pointed towards one particular name who has been quietly excellent at Liverpool.

He is quick, calm, and hard to beat one-on-one.

Transfer News Live has already reported that Real Madrid are looking at a Liverpool centre-back.

But just as Real Madrid were lining things up, another name entered the mix, Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG are serious. They have joined the race and are pushing hard. They see this as a chance to add more steel to their squad.

Prior to their Club World Cup final game against Chelsea, they have won all the trophies they could win this season.

However, a 3-0 thrashing in the hands of the London side is an eye-opener for Luis Enrique and his team.

They need to look for another centre-back who can provide stability to their backline along with Marquinhos.

The Parisians are offering a big salary and a big role. Their project is clear: to dominate France and Europe together.

According to a Spanish source, PSG are eyeing a move for Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate.

The French international has a year left in his contract. So, Liverpool must weigh up the offers they might get from both PSG and Real Madrid.

Or else, they can extend his contract. But the negotiations are not going smoothly for the Reds.

So, unless they make a decision soon, they might have to lose their star defender for free.
