Tottenham Hotspur continue strengthening their squad as Roberto De Zerbi reshapes the team ahead of the new season.

Spurs have already focused heavily on defensive recruitment during the summer window. Andy Robertson became one of the first arrivals of the new era.

Meanwhile, Marcos Senesi recently joined the club to add further experience at the back. Tottenham are also pushing to sign Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke.

The Dutch centre-back remains a major target after several approaches from the north London club. However, Spurs are not stopping there.

Reports suggest the club are also looking towards the future. According to Portal do Gremista, Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to sign Gremio defender Viery.

The 21-year-old can operate as both a centre-back and a left-back. His versatility has attracted interest from several clubs across Europe.

The report claims Tottenham now sit among a growing group of admirers. Newcastle United, Brighton, Nottingham Forest and Sunderland have also monitored the defender.

Italian clubs Roma, Juventus and Fiorentina continue tracking his progress as well. Scouts from multiple teams have watched Viery closely in recent months.

Gremio reportedly expect strong competition for the player’s signature. Reports claim Newcastle and Fiorentina already saw offers worth around €12M rejected.

That stance could trigger a bidding battle later in the transfer window. Tottenham are also progressing in talks to sign Savinho from Manchester City.

If both deals happen, Viery could become the second Brazilian player to arrive in north London this summer.

However, questions remain over where he would fit into the current squad. Tottenham already possess several options in central defence.

Micky van de Ven, Kevin Danso, Cristian Romero, Marcos Senesi and potentially Jan Paul van Hecke will all compete for places.

Highly-rated youngster Luka Vuskovic also remains part of the club’s long-term plans. As a result, breaking into the first team may prove difficult.
