Tottenham Hotspur continue moving quickly in the transfer market as Roberto De Zerbi reshapes the squad ahead of next season.
Spurs narrowly avoided relegation last season and now want major improvements across several positions before the new campaign begins.
The club already strengthened the defence after signing Andy Robertson. Meanwhile, Marcos Senesi also remains close to joining Tottenham this summer. However, Spurs now want changes in goal too.
Guglielmo Vicario faces an uncertain future after a difficult season in North London. The Italian goalkeeper has not played under De Zerbi following hernia surgery.
Therefore, Spurs are now ready to approve his departure during the current transfer window. A return to Serie A currently looks the most likely outcome.
Juventus continue monitoring Vicario after missing out on Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker. Inter Milan also remain interested in the Spurs goalkeeper.
As uncertainty grows around Vicario’s future, Tottenham Hotspur have now turned their attention towards a Paris Saint-Germain star.
According to L’Équipe, Spurs have made an enquiry for goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier. The 24-year-old joined PSG from Lille in a €40M deal and quickly became first-choice goalkeeper under Luis Enrique.
However, Chevalier later lost his place to Matvey Safonov during the second half of the season. That lack of game time eventually cost the Frenchman a place in France’s World Cup squad.
Despite that setback, several clubs still rate Chevalier highly because of his technical ability and distribution.
The goalkeeper recorded an 88 percent pass success rate last season, which ranked highest among Ligue 1 goalkeepers. Those qualities make him an attractive option for De Zerbi’ system.
PSG are now reportedly willing to sell the goalkeeper this summer after his reduced role during the second half of the campaign. However, Tottenham Hotspur may still face competition for his signature.
Aston Villa also continue monitoring Chevalier as uncertainty surrounds Emiliano Martinez’s future.
Villa reportedly view the PSG goalkeeper as a possible long-term replacement for the Argentina international.
