Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha had quite the season in 2024/25.
They lost seven of their first eight games.
When manager Gary O’Neil was sacked on December 15th, Wolves were in 19th place.
They had won just twice in the league at that point, with only three draws.
Cunha was the bright spark, with eight goals and three assists in the league at the time when O’Neil was sacked.
Vítor Pereira was brought in as O’Neil’s replacement.
In his first three games in charge, he guided Wolverhampton to two wins and a draw.
Six wins in their last ten helped them ease to Premier League survival.
Cunha missed four out of their last 11 league games.
However, he popped up with important goals for Wolverhampton in wins over Aston Villa, AFC Bournemouth, Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City.
Towards the end of the season, his desire to join Manchester United was clear to see.
He was pictured touching the grass at Old Trafford during a 1-0 win.
This summer, he has made the move to the red half of Manchester in a £62.5 million move.
Jørgen Strand Larsen’s end of season form softens the blue of Cunha’s loss.
He scored seven goals in Wolverhampton’s last 11 games.
Despite Stand Larsen’s form, Wolves appear to be out to get Cunha’s replacement.
Wolverhampton target La Liga youngster
It has been reported that they have agreed personal terms with Celta Vigo’s Fer López.
He has been compared to a Celta Vigo legend, Iago Aspas.
This is not something Wolves fans will want to hear, given Aspas’ time at Liverpool.
Nevertheless, there have been plenty of people that have talked highly of López.
López made his first start for the club in October 2024 in the Copa del Rey.
He only played more than 45 minutes on six occasions.
With two goals in his last eight appearances, Wolves fans will hope that these numbers can improve over time given Lopez just starting out his career.
With Strand Larsen set to take the starting striker spot, this can ease the pressure on a 22-year-old López.
