With newly promoted Sunderland and Leeds United showing serious ambition in their summer recruitment, Wolves will be one of the sides looking over the shoulder next season.

Vitor Pereira’s side have already lost two key players in Matheus Cunha and Aït-Nouri, who will be very difficult to replace.

Another first team player to have left the club is Nelson Semedo, who has left as a free agent five years after joining from FC Barcelona.

Well, it looks like the West Midlands outfit have moved to bring his replacement in to the club.

According to journalist Alex Crook, Wolves are reportedly showing an interest in Vladimir Coufal, who also has just left West Ham United as a free agent after five years.

This perhaps indicates that there is not a lot of money for Pereira to spend this summer, despite the money made from the big name outgoings.

So far, they have signed Fer López from Celta Vigo and Jhon Arias from Fluminense, as well as making the signing of Jørgen Strand Larsen, also from Celta Vigo, a permanent one.

However, with the bottom half of the English Premier League getting more competitive than ever, they are going to need further reinforcements to stay clear of safety.

As you’d expect, signing Coufal on a free from West Ham is not going to make the fans hugely excited for what is expected to be another tough challenge ahead.

During a friendly against Stoke City on Saturday, Ki-Jana Hoever impressed against his former loan side.

Perhaps he could be “like a new signing” as the cliche goes, though that might be a stretch.

If the low cost signing of Coufal allows Wolves to spend money in different areas of the pitch, there could be an upside to a potential deal.

Still, this does not feel like the signing that they would have made in the past five to ten years.

They once prized Ruben Neves out of Porto whilst a second tier side, they were able to sign Joao Moutinho after promotion.

Now, they are scraping around for West Ham’s left overs. It has been a largely consistent downward spiral in the last five years and they are now seriously looking over their shoulders.
