Manchester United are preparing for their clash against Aston Villa at Old Trafford this Sunday. The Red Devils know the importance of this game.
Villa and United are both tied on the same points, and Michael Carrick’s men are above them in third position in the Premier League table due to their superior goal difference.
Both Liverpool and Chelsea are following Villa and United. Both clubs are in fifth and sixth place, tied at 48 points with only goal difference separating them.
That is why this game becomes crucial for both Manchester United and Aston Villa. Now, ahead of the game, the Red Devils have suffered a massive setback.
They were expecting that Lisandro Martinez would come back to the squad after missing the last three games for the Red Devils.
The Argentine suffered a calf injury during the training before United’s clash against Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The initial assessment was that the 2022 World Cup winner would miss only the Everton game. However, till then, he has missed the game against Crystal Palace and Newcastle United.
Now, according to the Daily Mail, Lisandro Martinez will be out for one more game, which means he will miss Manchester United’s clash against Aston Villa this Sunday.
So, this will be a huge setback for the Red Devils ahead of a crunch game like this. Sunday’s match against Villa at Old Trafford could decide their top 4 fate.
Last season, on the final day, United defeated Aston Villa and prevented them from playing in the Champions League, which helped Newcastle massively in qualifying for the competition.
Since Lisandro Martinez signed for Manchester United in 2022, he has become a key figure in the defence. Also, Matthijs de Ligt is recovering from his persistent back injury.
Thus, Harry Maguire could partner Leny Yoro in Sunday’s crucial Premier League clash against Aston Villa.
