When you think of Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson, one thing comes to mind straight away, and that is discipline.
The dressing room had rules, and the manager set high standards. And if anyone crossed the line, they usually faced the famous “hairdryer treatment”. That is why this story feels so strange.
Rafael da Silva has shared a moment from his time at the club that left everyone stunned. It involved his Brazilian teammate and one of Ferguson’s favourites during that period.
The incident happened inside a lift at the training ground. Several players stood close together, just a normal moment before things suddenly turned awkward.
Out of nowhere, Anderson shouted a warning, and then he made his move. The action shocked everyone inside, and players froze instantly.
Because they all expected the same outcome, which is Ferguson losing his temper. Given his reputation, it felt inevitable.
Rafael even admitted they thought Anderson had gone too far this time. He pulled off the prank right in front of the manager.
For a second, the lift stayed completely silent as everyone braced for the reaction. But instead of anger, Ferguson laughed.
Rafael said the moment caught everyone off guard. They could not believe what they had just seen. The manager who demanded so much discipline simply saw the funny side.
It also showed something else. Ferguson clearly had a soft spot for Anderson. Not many players could get away with something like that.
Rafael : “Fergie used to love Anderson. Once we were in a packed elevator and Anderson screamed “Sack Tap!” and slapped Fergie on the nuts from below. We thought he would kill Anderson but he laughed” pic.twitter.com/L2JbsF0HAo
