England have announced a massive squad ahead of their upcoming international fixtures. Thomas Tuchel has named a 35-man group for friendlies against Japan and Uruguay.
However, things did not go entirely smoothly during the announcement. A small but noticeable mistake slipped through during the official announcement.
Every player had their club correctly mentioned next to their name. Also, they updated the loan details for certain players carefully. So, it looked like a well-prepared squad list at first glance.
But one detail stood out. And it did not take long for fans to notice it. England included 11 defenders in this large squad.
There were some familiar names returning as well. Fikayo Tomori is back in the picture. Kobbie Mainoo has also been included once again.
So, Tuchel clearly wants to test different options before the next major tournament. That is why he has gone with such a large group.
Also, the squad includes multiple players from Manchester City. Names like John Stones and Phil Foden were expected. Others like James Trafford and Nico O’Reilly also made the cut.
But despite all the correct entries, according to The Sun, one player’s entry was a blunder. That came as a surprise because his move happened months ago.
In fact, he completed a £20 million transfer earlier this year. Yet, England still listed him under his old team. That player was Marc Guehi.
The defender, who now plays for Manchester City, was mistakenly shown as a Crystal Palace player. It was a simple error, but one that quickly caught attention. The FA have rectified that mistake.
Guehi has already made 26 appearances for England since his debut in 2022. So, he remains an important part of the squad.
Now, he continues to settle in under Pep Guardiola, where he has already started earning trust.
