Newcastle United are heading towards a defining summer, with big decisions now expected at the club.
So, planning has already begun behind the scenes with a focus on building a stronger squad. This season has not gone as planned, as results have been disappointing most times.
However, Eddie Howe still has strong backing and the club hierarchy continues to trust his work. But the manager has now made his position clear. He wants major changes ahead of next season.
According to TEAMtalk, Howe has delivered a firm message. He believes the current squad is not ready to compete for trophies consistently.
So, a rebuild is now on the agenda, with both arrivals and departures on the cards. Newcastle United need funds to reshape the squad, and that is where sales will play a key role.
That means some big names could leave, as difficult decisions are now unavoidable. Two players who could leave next summer are Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento.
Tonali is open to a move, as his representatives have already started exploring options. Manchester United and Manchester City are interested.
Real Madrid have also been contacted over a potential deal. Livramento is also attracting attention, with Manchester City tracking him for some time.
They are looking to sign a right-back this summer. So, he could become a target again. Despite their importance, Newcastle may need to sell to help fund new signings.
Last summer created several problems. Howe had to take on extra responsibility. Also, the transfer window did not go smoothly.
To make matters worse, their best player from the last season, Alexander Isak, left after a long saga. So, Newcastle had to react quickly by signing Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade late.
Now, despite recent comments from CEO David Hopkinson, there is clear backing for Howe after what he did for the club.
Eddie Howe wants progress at the highest level. And he is not willing to settle for anything less.
